What Happens After Death?

Bill Henness

Most people believe they will continue to live after their death. Christians believe two different things occur after they die and non-believers believe nothing happens after they die. Lets look at what the bible says for the sake of those who may believe the bible.

Jesus allegedly said: ", I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die...." (John 11:25,26)

"And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust." (Acts 24:15)

"Now is Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen; and if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ, whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised; and if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain, you are yet in your sins. Then they also who are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." (1 Cor. 15:12-19)

"But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection; on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." (Rev. 20:5,6)

"Behold,. I show you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." (1 Cor. 15:51)

Then there are some Christians who believe as soon as they die they are conscience in Paradise.
"For to me (Paul) to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor, yet what I shall choose I know not. For I am in a strait between two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better." (Phil. 1:21-23)

"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven, If so be that, being clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life." (2 Cor. 5:1-4)

Of course all these Christians, whether they believe in going immediately after death to be with Jesus or if they believe in the resurrection of the dead; all of them merely believe and have faith they will live again after their death. There is no proof. They believe the proof of this is the resurrection of Jesus, and there is no proof of that either. They merely believe it.

Then there are the rest of us, whether agnostics, atheists or theists, who believe when we die we just cease to exist forever. "Rest in peace."
Which camp are you in?
